Helping Hand team visited Noor Thalassemia Foundation to meet brave thalassemia-affected children and witness the Foundation’s compassionate work providing regular transfusions, emotional support, and life-saving care.
Recently, the Helping Hand team visited Noor Thalassemia Foundation, where they had the opportunity to meet the children living with thalassemia — young warriors surviving their illness. Many of these children receive a blood transfusion every two weeks to exist in the world with all the bravery and smiles they can muster.
The purpose of the visit was two-fold: to provide moral support to the Foundation, but also to gain a sense of the depth and breadth of the work being done at this Foundation — work that is largely unrecognized but which has life-altering effects daily.
As they walked around together in the treatment and transfusion areas and spoke with the children present, the thing that struck the team the most was the strength and resilience in their eyes. These kids are dealing with a genetic blood disorder that requires blood transfusions every couple of weeks, yet we're giving off warmth, energy, and quiet courage.
The staff at Noor Thalassemia Foundation spent time explaining how their operations work, from how treatment works, screening and registration, arranging for regular donations, transfusion processes and perhaps most importantly, the emotional support and care teams for patients and their families. Within moments of learning about their operations, it was apparent that this was not a medical effort but rather an effort of compassion and personal commitment to their endeavor.
The Helping Hand team listened, learned, laughed, and shared special moments with the children.
